Also about once a week, is when I change my nail polish color and give myself a manicure, this is what it looks like, step by step: I use anything from regular olive oil, Argan oil to apricot oil ( this one from Essie is my favorite). Every night, in addition to applying my hand cream, I also massage some cuticle oil into my cuticles. I file them probably about once a week- this helps to get rid of any rough, pointy edges and prevents them from catching on clothing and breaking. The only time I cut my nails, is when I break one of them. I love a good at-home manicure session though and in this post, I’ll show you exactly how I file and prep my nails for a flawless nail polish application.* Getting a pedicure during summer is a torture for me- I don’t enjoy it at all, but have accepted it to be a necessary evil. I am a bit of a germophobe so I really don’t like getting my nails done at a salon- not even when bringing my own tools. ![]() BUT when it comes to my nails, they always have to look good. I don’t always wear makeup, my hair can be a mess, my outfits aren’t always on point. I’m also kind of, sort of, really obsessed with nails and nail polish. I always found it to be very soothing and relaxing, which was one of the reasons why I always did them myself.ītw, did you know that first acrylic nails were invented by a dentist who broke his fingernail at work? The more you know…. yeah… thank God those days are gone! I’d spend hours and hours playing with my acrylic sets, filing, painting and filling my nails. ![]() You know, the long pink fake nails with a thick, french tip…. In High School, I was obsessed with acrylics. Much like buffing a car, it brightens up the integrity of the nail by drawing oils from the actual nail giving it a natural shine.Being a nail polish addict ( hoarder?) that I am, I definitely don’t talk about nails here on the blog, often enough. Including multiple different options, the buffer helps polish the nail and give it a shine. The final tool that is included in this kit is the buffer tool. This tool does not have much hazard for the safety of one's fingers. The Cleanup Tool does so by using a more cotton-like style of rolling, to simply soften and freshen the nail. It is used to clean the nail from all of the debris that was left from working on it. This tool is almost identical to that of the Grind & Smooth, however, it is used with a softer head. Once again, this can be helpful in making one's desired nail curve, but also has a risk of damaging skin and the integrity of the nail itself. It works by still using that sand-paper idea, and using it on the curve of one's nail, in order to properly shape it. This tool is used similarly to the Grind & Smooth, by using a different style of head/roller. However, it is important to ensure that care is taken to not damage the nail itself by smoothing too much. The end result will be that it lightly grinds the polish, or other debris, off of the surface of the nail. It works by simply running a fast-moving, sandpaper-like roller over the nail. This tool is very useful in removing Shellac or other difficult nail polishes on the nail itself. ![]()
